Sew a strawberry Quilt Block - Sewing Tutorial

This step-by-step guide on how to create a charming strawberry quilt block is perfect for adding a splash of colour and a touch of whimsy to your projects. Grab your fabric, thread, and sewing machine, and let's get started on crafting this sweet and summery design that is sure to brighten up your day!

I've created 6 quilting blocks to use for a quilt top, so these instructions are also to make 6.

For the 6 strawberry quilting blocks cut -

3.5" squares in white x 12

3.5" squares in red x 15

3.5" squares in green x 15

2.5" squares in white x 12

4" squares in white x 12

6.5 x 10.5" red rectangles x 6

2.5" squares of green x 6

A 1/4” seam allowance is used throughout this project.

Instructions -

  1. Start by making half square triangles from the 3.5" squares. To do this, pair up -

6 white with 6 red,

6 white with 6 green,

and 9 red with 9 green.

Pin the squares right sides together and with an erasable marker, draw a diagonal line from one corner to another on each pair.

Optional -

If you'd like to add little seed shapes to the strawberry, use a 'lazy daisy' embroidery stitch with a contrasting thread.

I've used these quilt blocks to create a fun, scalloped edge quilt that I use for picnics during the summer.
